Help Children with Cancer and Their Families Through Their Difficult Journey

The Circle of Care story began in 2003 with the words that no parent ever wants to hear: "Your child has cancer." And anyone who has heard those words will agree...once you've heard them, your life is never the same. From that shock, two Moms started this volunteer driven nonprofit organization to help others, emotionally and financially, while caring for their sick child.

There are 14 children diagnosed each day and 525 children in treatment in Connecticut right now. 50% of the families Circle of Care supports live below the poverty level, and 85% make less than Connecticut’s median income. With only two treatment centers in the state (Yale New Haven Children's Hospital and Connecticut Children’s Medical Center), the average family drives 50 miles each day for treatment, which creates an added financial strain.

(The short video above about an exhibit, Life Within The Journey, that features pediatric cancer patients, helps to show the bravery, the spirit and the hope of families that have endured so much.)

The need for emergency financial support is significant, and crippling many during a time of emotional crisis. 70% of families experience a financial crisis during treatment, regardless of income. Circle of Care needs to raise $2,500 per family to meet the urgent need for its services. We are hoping that this campaign can raise enough money to cover just ONE DAY’S worth of kids diagnosed with cancer (14 children x $2,500 = $35,000).

Circle of Care has grown from being a local organization helping limited numbers of families to one that now operates state-wide and has earned the trust and respect of the medical community, corporations, foundations and individual donors. We have reached over 2,000 families, delivering 1,700 Bags of Love on the day of diagnosis, transforming over 83 rooms through our DreamRoom makeover program, and providing over $1 million in direct emergency financial support to families struggling to make ends meet while caring for their sick child.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the incidence of invasive pediatric cancers has increased 29% over the past 20 years. Because of advances in treatment, more than 80% of children now survive 5 years or more. The net result is that more children are undergoing longer and more expensive treatments.

“Circle of Care, and I don’t generally speak this way, they’re like angels of mercy. They’re the right people at the right place at the right time, during something no parent should have to go through.” -- Julian, Hannah's father

Donate and your money goes straight to those in need. Operating with very little overhead, Circle of Care provides a direct and positive community impact. An analysis of their program revealed that for every $1 given to Circle of Care, $5.66 is returned to the community.

We are looking to help 14 children within one month’s time. Any size donation helps and is greatly appreciated.

So, please donate today and have a direct, substantive and meaningful impact on children with cancer and their families living here in Connecticut.
