Hello Marchers!

We continue to raise funds. Read to find out why.

It's been reported that the new administration may make cuts to the Violence Against Women Act. New York magazine article click here. Wikipedia article on the VAWA click here.

Once all costs are covered, any remaining funds go to RISE SLO at www.riseslo.org.

RISE's is a non-profit. Their vision is to create a world free of sexual assault and intimate partner violence.

RISE is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that provides crisis intervention and treatment services to survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence and their loved ones. All services are provided confidentially, at low or no cost, to anyone regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ability. All crisis services are available in Spanish and English. All staff members are mandated reporters and have an obligation to report under the following circumstances: reports of abuse or neglect to minors, dependent adults, elders, as well as if a client is in danger of hurting themself or others.

Every dollar continues to count.

Warmly,

Your March Organizers

Update Jan. 16, 2017 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

In 2017, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day takes on special significance. While we don't know exactly what the future holds, we do know that over 5,000 of us plan to start this new era peacefully and inclusively at the Women's March San Luis Obispo.

In 1963, during highly turbulent times before the passage of the Voting Rights Act, Dr. King said, “In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred.” (https://www.archives.gov/files/press/exhibits/drea...)

Today we want to thank you for supporting the Women's March San Luis Obispo.

As our numbers grow, the more our safety and support services cost.

Every dollar continues to count towards this historic event.

Organizers are 100% unpaid volunteers. If there are funds remaining after expenses are covered they will be donated to RISE riseslo.org

Please remember to register at Eventbrite here. It's free and helps us get a count on attendees so we can plan accordingly.

We'd love to know why you are marching. Please complete this form so we can share your message about #WhyIMarch.

Thank you!

Due to the overwhelmingly positive and growing number of planned attendees we are raising our fundraising goal. The more people we have, the more our safety and support services cost.

Happy Holidays!

Exciting updates for 12/26/17

The Women's March San Luis Obispo is making progress towards safely coming together in solidarity with people across the United States and Internationally to march for women's and human rights. HEAR OUR VOICE!

Still Needed:

1. Rolling Street Closure - Now that we have the permit, the San Luis Obispo Police Department Traffic Safety Unit will commit to providing a rolling street closure in order to maintain safety for all participants. This is NOT a free service. We still need funds to cover this cost. Can you give a little more? Just $1605 to go.

2. Designated area for people who want to participate and cannot march - We will have a designated area at Mitchell Park for people to participate without marching. We'd like to offer seating. This is funding dependent. Please help us make this happen. Every donation counts.

PROGRESS WE’VE MADE:

1. We have obtained a special events permit from the city!

2. Three Portable Toilets, one ADA, all with hand sanitizer have been ordered from Harvey’s Honey Huts, the best local support for when you’ve gotta go!

3. Flyers are going up around San Luis and surrounding areas. Have you seen them yet? Click here to print a copy.

4. Bike valet is confirmed for our event! They are generously donating their services and only ask that we cover the cost to have people there. So just $80 down from $299.00

5. We've officially chosen an organization to receive all remaining funds if there are any. Any remaining funds will go to RISE SLO. Find out more at riseslo.org

Please share and make sure to register on Eventbrite here. It's free and helps us get a count of our numbers so we can plan accordingly.

Update 12/10/2016
42 days to go and we are almost 50% of the way to our goal. Let's get there quickly!

Thank You! First - a sincere thank you to those who have donated. We actually could not make this happen without you. We are giddy with excitement about the feedback for Women's March San Luis Obispo. We cannot wait to see you there!

Permitting:
Permitting is in the works! Our interaction with the City/Safety Services has been highly positive and collaborative. A HUGE THANK YOU to them!

Costs:
What you see below is as of 12/10/16. We want ALL women's (and their loved ones) voices heard, which means we want LOTS of people there. Lots of people means thinking about health, safety, and other "stuff". Keep reading!

One need left (read on for all the things we're already funded for)

Street Closure: $3000.00. A march of this size requires safety measures. One of those is making sure we have room to march legally. Please give, or give a little more, to ensure we meet this financial goal. Let's march in the streets - Hear our voice!

=====================================================
Who we are and Why this march: We are the Women's March San Luis Obispo, a sister march to the Women's March on Washington. On Jan. 21, 2017, the day after the inauguration, women, men and children who stand for women’s rights, human rights, civil liberties, diversity and compassion will march with us in San Luis Obispo. Our purpose is to send a powerful message to our new administration, on their first day in office, that women's rights are imperative for our Nation’s unification.

Why these funds are critical and What they will be used for:
While it's true that we can march without permits and services, we don't want to. We live in a small community where our friends and neighbors are affected by downtown traffic and happenings. In addition we wish to engage peacefully, and part of a peaceful march is being in partnership with our local city officials and safety services. To do so we need to cover certain costs.

Funds will be used solely to cover the cost of putting on this march. These costs include things such as permitting and safety fees. If there are funds left over, we will donate those to local organizations that support women. No funds will be kept by organizers.

Mission Statement: On January 21, 2017, we will unite in San Luis Obispo to show support for the Women’s March on Washington. We stand together in solidarity with our friends, families, and women everywhere, for the protection of women's rights, safety and health; and to look forward to a positive future. This nationwide march will send a powerful message to our new administration, on their first day in office, that this is the first step towards unifying our Nation's diverse communities, grounded in new relationships, to create change from the grassroots level up. We work peacefully and inclusively, while recognizing there is no true peace without equity for all. HEAR OUR VOICE!

We wholeheartedly THANK YOU for your support of this momentous event!
